Below you'll find the common terms we use when discussing the Nodeware platform.
Agents - Nodeware Agents are a lightweight software package that install on individual assets to provide full visibility of vulnerabilities regardless of the network the assets resides on. They are designed to support work-from-anywhere mobile assets but also work to provide full-depth scanning for on-prem assets as well with no configuration.
Assets - Nodeware subscriptions are based on the number of monitored assets. An asset are physical and virtual hosts on a network, websites, or public IP addresses. These include laptops, desktops, servers, smartphones, virtual machines, and other devices with a network connection.
Dashboard - The Nodeware Dashboard is a cloud delivered software service where you can manage, view, and get reports on your network and drill down into the risks affecting the assets that are connected to it. To get logged in, visit https://app.nodeware.com.
Externals - Nodeware provides the ability to scan all internet-facing assets from scanners hosted in the cloud. IP addresses and domain names can be submitted to be scanned and can be set to reoccur on a schedule, once a week or once a month as needed. External scanning is included with all Nodeware subscription and external assets are counted the same as internal assets.
Inventory - Nodeware Sensors capture an inventory of connected assets on their assigned networks every minute. This allows for the detection of new, unknown assets, as well as tracking known assets availability. Inventory scans enables the continuous vulnerability scanning to be optimized for low network and asset impact, allowing Nodeware to deliver real-time insights into your network.
Score - Nodeware calculates a risk score for individual assets as well as weighted averages for entire networks. The score is on a scale of 0 to 1000, with lower scores given to assets that have severe vulnerabilities and are in need of patches or updates.
Sensors - Nodeware Sensors are designed to connect whole networks to Nodeware and are the best way to get full visibility into unmanaged devices, such as BYOD and IoT, that appear on corporate networks. By default, they provide unauthenticated scans of all assets in the specified ranges but can be configured with credentials for full authenticated scans as well.
Subscription - Nodeware is delivered as a subscription service and is structured based on the number of assets monitored at a given time. Subscriptions are available in blocks of 50 assets and can be scaled to fit environments of any size.
Vulnerability - A vulnerability is a weakness or flaw in software or hardware which when compromised, affects the availability, integrity, or confidentiality of information stored on the asset. Nodeware's vulnerability structure starts with the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) and follows their Common Vulnerability Enumeration (CVE) convention.
