Q: What is Nodeware Agent?
A: Nodeware Agent is a mobile, silent guardian protecting the machine on which it is installed. Nodeware Agent performs a single machine, credentialed vulnerability scan of Windows computers. Nodeware Agent is installed locally, and goes with the Windows computer, everywhere that computer goes. Once Nodeware Agent is installed, Nodeware protects that machine, and aggregates vulnerability data from the Agent with all the sensors and agents associated with a Nodeware subscription.
Think of it this way. If the computers in your fleet were like cars in a parking garage, a Nodeware sensor is like a camera system monitoring the garage. Nodeware Agent goes with the cars after they leave the garage.
Q: Can anyone use Nodeware Agent?
A: Any Nodeware subscriber can download Nodeware Agent for Windows, or provide a download link to users who remotely work on their network, or in their fleet of computers. Installation is simple and can be adapted to many popular device management deployment tools.
Q: Will Nodeware Agent scan my home network, or the Starbucks where I’m working?
A: No. Nodeware Agent performs a single machine credentialed vulnerability scan for Windows computers and will only scan for vulnerabilities on the machine where it is installed.
Q: Does Nodeware Agent update vulnerability data to the Nodeware portal from any network to which I’m connected?
A: Nodeware Agent communicates directly with the Nodeware cloud and can be used on any network with internet access.
Q: How frequently does Nodeware Agent update the system fingerprint?
A: Nodeware runs its fingerprint identification routines on system restarts which allows it to update system information after operating system upgrades and patches.
Q: How often does Nodeware Agent scan for vulnerabilities?
A: Nodeware automatically scans Agent endpoints once per day unless a manual rescan is requested.
Q: What system resources will Nodeware Agent consume during scans?
A: Nodeware Agent is designed to be lightweight and non-resource intensive. At peak, Nodeware may use up to 1GB of system memory. CPU and disk utilization will depend on system configuration but should not interfere with normal system operation.
Q: What are the installation specifications required to install and run Nodeware Agent?
A: We recommend 2GB hard drive space, and a minimum of 4GB ram (not all for the agent, just a machine minimum) on a Windows 10 64-bit (Home, Pro, Enterprise) or Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019.
Q: What does Nodeware Agent Cost?
A: Software sensor downloads are free to Nodeware subscribers. Like our Windows sensor, and our VMWare sensor, Windows Agent is a free download to any subscriber with one or more blocks of protected assets in a subscription. If you’re still on license-based pricing, ask your Nodeware representative about migrating your account, and opening up the world of free sensor downloads.
Q: Does the user of a machine with Nodeware Agent installed get a Nodeware login?
A: Typically, no. Nodeware Agent is a quiet, silent guardian protecting the machine on which it is installed by monitoring vulnerabilities and sending that information securely to the Nodeware portal. Most Nodeware Agent machines are deployed outside IT or cybersecurity teams, and so Nodeware access is not in scope for the machine owner just because Nodeware Agent is protecting their computer.
Q: How are Agent equipped devices annotated in the Nodeware portal?
A: Look for this ‘Agent’ icon.
You'll find it here on the Devices view:
Q: Where does one download Windows Agent installer files?
A: Four clicks: starting at Customers, Settings, Windows Agents, and Download two Files. (see following)
